XStream Software Launches Linux Simulator™ v1.0

Simulation-authoring technology creates Interactive Simulations, Presentations, Demos, Tutorials, and other multimedia content files for Linux-based applications.

OTTAWA, Canada, January 16, 2004 - XStream Software Inc., the leading provider of today's unmatched E-learning, Authoring, and Administration/Tracking technologies, has released Linux Simulator v1.0, a 100% programming-free simulation-authoring technology for Linux. With XStream's RapidBuilder® technology already available as an advanced feature-rich tool for creating interactive simulations, courses, and other types of multimedia content files in Windows, XStream now also offers Linux Simulator as a complementary technology that brings the same type of simulation-authoring power to the Linux environment. As a unique simulation-development package for the Linux operating system, Linux Simulator includes capturing and editing components.

At the click of a button, the developer may continuously capture all live interactions with Linux-based software applications. As a result of Linux Simulator's continuous "pixel-based" capturing technique, all real-time screen changes and user actions are captured, including mouse pointer movements, keystrokes, and mouse clicks. Developers may create Linux simulations that are interactive (where the end user directly interacts with the simulation by clicking the mouse and pressing keys) or non-interactive (where the simulation plays back as a hands-free "movie" that the end user simply watches without participating).

When recording is finished, the user may edit, enhance, and polish the recorded simulation using Linux Simulator's advanced drag-and-drop object palettes and edit suite, which allow for the addition of non-recorded content screens, text, mouse pointer animations, shapes, colors, navigation buttons, instructional text boxes, validation text fields, and more. Once created, Linux Simulator files are converted into Flash (SWF) files and then played through the Macromedia Flash Player or through a web browser using the Flash Plug-in.

Linux Simulator is supported on a range of existing Linux distributions, including Red Hat Linux 9.0 or later, SuSE Linux 9.0, Caldera Open Linux 2.3 or later, SCO UNIX 7, and Solaris 8.

"The Linux Simulator technology provides Linux users with a powerful yet easy way to develop sophisticated simulations, presentations, and demos for their Linux-based software," says Sunil K. Sethi, XStream's President and CEO.

"The key advantages of ultra-fast development, quality multimedia content and small file size have been an effective combination for our RapidBuilder users working in Windows," adds Mahendra K. Agrawal, XStream's Vice President of Technology. "We're excited that Linux users now have the opportunity to enjoy the same results with Linux Simulator."

About XStream

XStream Software, a 5x brandon-hall.com award winner, has designed and developed next-generation, 100% programming-free e-Learning, authoring & tracking technologies. RapidBuilder® and RapidExam™ are used for creating interactive Software Simulations, WBT, Presentations, Assessments, and Certifications. Linux Simulator™ is used to create interactive software simulations for Linux-based applications. Performance Analyzer™ is used for creating Performance-based Evaluations, which measure, track, and evaluate/test users' performance through software simulations created for Windows-based applications. LGP Builder™ offers next-generation learning by creating 'live', step-by-step, in-application guidance along with animated laser pointers that indicate to the user where they need to perform the actions within the live application. LGP Builder™ for SAP provides an out-of-the-box LGP technology that works with any SAP module. RapidSVG™ is XStream's vector-based SVG authoring application, which enables developers to create SVG web sites, graphics, animations, and other authored content. On the back end, RapidManager™ provides full tracking and administration capability for RapidBuilder, RapidExam, Performance Analyzer, and LGP files, and RapidPortal™ provides browser-based portal accessibility for complete web-based administration and deployment of RapidBuilder, RapidExam, Performance Analyzer, and LGP files.
