XStream Software Launches RapidSVG™ v1.0
New
Graphical SVG Authoring Technology enables developers to
quickly and easily create SVG web sites, animations, and
other interactive content.
OTTAWA, Canada, August 22,
2003 - XStream Software Inc.,
the leading provider of today's unmatched E-learning, Authoring,
and Administration/Tracking technologies, has released RapidSVG
v1.0, a 100% programming-free Vector-Based Authoring
Technology, which employs the new Scalable Vector
Graphics (SVG) browser standard for vector
graphics and animations. RapidSVG provides a programming-free
authoring environment in which developers may create and
deploy SVG web sites, graphics, animations, client-server
applications, web-based applications, and other types of
content files rich in interactivity and animations.
Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) is
the new XML-based graphics standard, which will have default
support across all major browsers (such as Internet Explorer
and Netscape) in the near future. As the next generation
in vector graphics, SVG is a language for describing two-dimensional
graphics in XML. It allows for three (3) types of graphic
objects: Vector Graphic Shapes (e.g., paths consisting
of straight lines and curves), Images, and Text.
Graphical objects can be grouped, styled, transformed, and
composited into previously rendered objects. Note that SVG
can work on its own, or it can be combined with existing
web technologies (including XML, JavaScript, HTML, etc.)
to create rich, powerful, and secure client-server applications.
Using nothing more complicated than drag-and-drop
actions and property settings, developers working in RapidSVG may
build professional-level SVG content with high levels of
interactivity and animations. There is absolutely no programming
involved. Developers may easily create ready-made interactive
content using the extensive set of interactive components
provided in RapidSVG ' s drag-and-drop object
palette. These interactive objects include Hyperlink (to
create different types of interactive links, including links
between SVG pages, links to pop-up text/images, and links
to external SVG files and web pages), Check Box (to
add Windows-style check boxes), Radio Button (to
add Windows-style radio buttons), Combo Box (to add
Windows-style combo boxes), Text Field and Instruction
Box (to add text directly to an SVG page), and Validation
Field (to add active validation text fields for entering
text). RapidSVG also includes a palette of drag-and-drop
draw objects and draw tools, which are used to visually enhance
SVG pages with lines, shapes, colors, and custom art.
SVG animations are very powerful, but they
are also very difficult to code manually. RapidSVG makes
it easy to author powerful and complex animations by allowing
the developer to create animations automatically instead
of having to learn the SVG and JavaScript syntax. RapidSVG enables
the developer to instantly create any type of animation supported
by SVG. For any selected object added to an SVG page, the
developer simply needs to select the desired type of animation
(Motion Animation, Transform Animation, Color
Animation, or Property Animation) and then
customize the animation by defining various available settings
(including the scope, speed, and duration of the animation).
SVG content files developed with RapidSVG may
be deployed on a local machine, on CD-ROM, over a Local Area
Network (LAN) or Wide Area Network (WAN), and over the Web
(Internet, Intranet, or Extranet). RapidSVG even
enables developers to automatically publish SVG content to
a web server using the integrated Publish feature.
"The SVG standard represents the future
of high-quality web and graphic development," says Sunil
K. Sethi, XStream's President and CEO. "The
advantages of SVG-based content, which can be scaled without
loss of quality across various platforms and devices, are
enormous. XStream's RapidSVG technology will allow
content developers to fully utilize the benefits of SVG while
avoiding the complexities."
"Working with SVG can be intimidating for
the average user, but RapidSVG makes SVG authoring
fast and easy," says Mahendra K. Agrawal, XStream's
Vice President of Technology. "Just like all of XStream's
authoring technologies, RapidSVG eliminates the complexities
and provides ready-made objects that can be easily manipulated
and customized."
