XStream Software Launches RapidBuilder® v3.0 Deluxe

RapidBuilder v3.0 Deluxe Technology is both SCORM v1.2 Compliant and 508 Compliant, and it includes Enhanced Audio Capabilities, New Options for Importing Flash™ and Image files, and much more.

OTTAWA, Canada, January 17, 2003 - XStream Software Inc., the leading provider of today's unmatched E-learning, Authoring, and Administration/Tracking technologies, has released RapidBuilder v3.0 Deluxe, a special advanced edition of RapidBuilder v3.0, XStream's 100% programming-free simulation-authoring software. Building on the already wide variety of v3.0 features, RapidBuilder v3.0 Deluxe provides developers with a whole range of extra deluxe features to further enhance the authoring experience.

XStream's RapidBuilder technology enables any developer to create, customize, and deploy Fully Interactive, Multimedia Simulation (.RBX) files and Project/Course (.RPR) files that realistically duplicate the functionality of the live Windows environment. Real-time screen interactions (including mouse clicks, keystrokes, and cursor/mouse pointer movements) with any desktop or web-based software application may be recorded to instantly create tutorials, demos, and presentations. RapidBuilder files may be edited through a feature-rich multimedia edit suite, which includes provisions for adding appended/inserted frames, text, graphics, pre-defined screen templates, audio files, recorded sound clips, embedded sound tracks, video, navigational hyperlinks, links to external files and web pages, menus, mouse pointer animations, highlighting actions, drag and drop actions, special visual effects, colors, shapes, combo boxes, instruction boxes, and more. After editing, RapidBuilder files may be saved with a high rate of compression (80-97%), and they may be converted to a variety of popular media formats, including EXE, AVI, ASF, MOV, MPEG, and Flash (SWF). Files may be deployed on CD-ROM, over the Network (LANs/WANs), and via the web (Internet, Intranet, Extranet).

RapidBuilder v3.0 Deluxe is SCORM v1.2 compliant. It enables developers to create SCORM v1.2 courses (in addition to .RBX simulations and .RPR projects). Courses that comply with the Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) v1.2 can be registered and managed with RapidManager v3.0 (XStream's administrative management tool) or any other Learning Management System that supports SCORM v1.2. The learning content of a SCORM v1.2 course comes in the form of Sharable Content Objects (SCOs), which are modular objects that can be reused in other SCORM v1.2 courses. In RapidBuilder v3.0 Deluxe, a SCORM v1.2 course may contain both RBX-based SCOs and Flash-based SCOs. The multiple save/conversion options enable the developer to save any RBX-based SCORM v1.2 course as a Flash-based SCORM v1.2 course, save any .RPR project as an .RBX-based or Flash-based SCORM v1.2 course, save any .RBX file as an RBX-based SCO or Flash-based SCO, and save any RBX-based SCO as a Flash-based SCO or a regular .RBX file.

RapidBuilder v3.0 Deluxe is also 508 compliant, meaning it fully supports the accessibility requirements specified in Section 508 of the U.S Rehabilitation Act. In order to be completely accessible to users with physical disabilities or limited mobility, all of the features within RapidBuilder v3.0 Deluxe may be accessed and manipulated using designated keyboard keys or key combinations (instead of using the "point and click" functionality of the mouse device). These keyboard equivalents provide an alternative for disabled users who may not be able to utilize the mouse device. In addition, the technology supports the Windows Accessibility Options, which are special Windows accessibility settings that may be customized for keyboard, sound, display, and mouse.

Other new RapidBuilder v3.0 Deluxe features include the capability of importing/exporting text from a RapidBuilder file (for purposes of language translation), automatic text-to-speech capability in the Instruction Box/Text Field, thumbnail frame views, the ability to import Flash files, animated GIF files, and multiple images into a RapidBuilder file, new audio options (including saving recorded sound clips as audio files, implementing audio interruption capabilities at the frame level, and importing audio into a single frame [as opposed to multiple frames]), the ability to customize shortcut keys, and additional support for wildcard characters/patterns in the Validation Field.

"RapidBuilder v3.0 Deluxe provides an extra layer of sophistication to our simulation and course-authoring technology, which has already proven highly successful," says Sunil K. Sethi, XStream's President and CEO. "The deluxe options give developers the tools they need to elevate their content to the next level."
