2003 - XStream Software Inc.,
the leading provider of today's unmatched E-learning, Authoring,
and Administration/Tracking technologies, has released RapidExam
v2.0 Deluxe, a special advanced edition of RapidExam
v2.0, XStream's 100% programming-free exam/assessment-authoring
software. Building on the solid base of features already
available in the standard version, RapidExam v2.0 Deluxe provides
even more flexibility with an extra layer of sophisticated
exam development options.
XStream's RapidExam technology provides
a feature-rich, programming-free environment for the development,
customization, and deployment of Fully Interactive, Multimedia
Exams and Assessments. Using RapidExam ' s advanced
design tools, developers can build exams that include splash
screens, login screen, conceptual content screens (both at
the beginning and end of the exam), multiple question types,
and prefabricated reports. Each screen and question created
in RapidExam can be enhanced with a host of multimedia
features, including images, audio, video, recorded voice-overs
and sound clips, navigational hyperlinks, links to external
files and web pages, mouse pointer animations, instruction
boxes, status bars, colors, shapes, and a lot more. After
editing, RapidExam files may be saved and deployed
in native.EXM format or in .XML format, and they may also
be printed out as traditional paper-based exams. EXM files
may be deployed on CD-ROM, over LANs/WANs, and over the Web
using the RapidPlayer ActiveX Control (for Internet
Explorer) or RapidPlayer Plug-in (for Netscape).
In addition, EXM and .XML exam files may be managed and tracked
using XStream's back-end RapidManager v3.0 administration
tool.
RapidExam v2.0 Deluxe is a SCORM
v1.2-compliant technology that enables developers to save
.EXM exam files as SCORM v1.2-compliant courses. Courses
that comply with the Sharable Content Object Reference
Model (SCORM) v1.2 can be deployed,
managed, and tracked using RapidManager v3.0 (XStream's
back-end administrative management tool) or any other Learning
Management System that supports SCORM v1.2. The learning
content of a SCORM v1.2-compliant course comes in the form
of a Sharable Content Object (SCO), which
is a modular, browser-launchable object that can be reused
in other SCORM v1.2 courses. In RapidExam v2.0 Deluxe,
the developer may save an exam as a ready-made SCORM v1.2-compliant
course (containing a single SCO) or as a standalone SCO (which
may be subsequently reused in other SCORM v1.2 courses).
Note that an exam may be saved as both an EXM-based SCORM
course or SCO and an XML-based SCORM course or SCO.
RapidExam v2.0 Deluxe also supports
four (4) new question types (in addition to the 7 existing
question types already available in RapidExam). These
new question types include Short Answer (in which
the user's typed text is validated using keywords), Combo
Box List (in which the user provides an answer by selecting
one or more listed items from a Windows-style combo box), Edit
Combo Box List (in which the user provides an answer
by selecting or typing a single item within a Windows-style
combo box), and List Box List (in which the user
provides an answer by selecting one or more listed items
from a Windows-style list box).
Other new RapidExam v2.0 Deluxe features
include the capability of importing/exporting text from a
RapidExam file (for purposes of language translation), the
ability to import Flash files and animated GIF files into
a RapidExam file, the capability of importing multiple frames
(screens) from other RapidExam files (thus allowing the developer
to easily reuse portions of existing exam files), the ability
to save an .EXM exam file as an .EXE executable file, the
ability to define custom exam sets and question sequences
for an exam, and additional support for wildcard characters/patterns
in the Fill-in-the-Blanks Field.
