SCORM 2004 Compliance Now Featured in RapidExam™

Online Assessments and Certifications developed in RapidExam can now be delivered, tracked, and reported through any SCORM 2004-compliant Learning Management System.

OTTAWA, Canada, March 2, 2007 - XStream Software Inc., a leading provider of advanced software and services for e-learning, content & assessment authoring, streaming media, learning management, and enterprise communication/collaboration, today announced a new release of its RapidExam assessment and certification authoring technology with full SCORM 2004 compliance. RapidExam v3.0 Deluxe Release 2 now supports SCORM 2004 (the most current version of SCORM). In addition, RapidExam continues its support for the SCORM v1.2 and v1.1 standards (which are still widely used).

Published by the Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) project, SCORM is a collection of standards and specifications (adapted from multiple sources) that are used to enable interoperability, accessibility and reusability of web-based learning content. SCORM 2004 is the latest version of this popular learning industry standard.

"Because of a continually expanding developer and learner base with a wide range of needs and initiatives, the relevance and usefulness of any assessment-authoring software is increasingly dependent on its ability to integrate with e-learning systems from other vendors," comments Sunil K. Sethi, XStream’s President and CEO. "With this in mind, we have strengthened our commitment to the premium SCORM standard by adopting support for SCORM 2004 in our RapidExam tool. This support enables the creation of rich interoperable assessment content, which can seamlessly integrate with many of the industry’s most popular and widely used learning management systems."

A major improvement in SCORM 2004 is the support for sequencing definitions. In previous versions of SCORM, no sequencing information could be defined for a content aggregation, meaning that the learner was free to select lessons/learning units in any order, without any restrictions on the number of attempts. However, in SCORM 2004, the developer/author of the SCORM course can specify the order in which the lessons/learning units (SCOs) will be played.

"The SCORM 2004 support in RapidExam provides developers and end users with the advantages of portability and versatility without compromising on simplicity or ease of use," adds Dr. Johnson Kuruvila, XStream’s Vice President of Research and Development. "Converting a RapidExam assessment file into a SCORM 2004-compliant content package is accomplished rapidly with a few simple clicks of the mouse."
