XStream Software Launches RapidExam™ v2.5 Deluxe

Latest version of RapidExam features IMS QTI Compliance, Question Enhancements, Conditional Ending Frame Display, Bookmarking Capabilities, and much more.

OTTAWA, Canada, October 22, 2004 - XStream Software Inc., a leading provider of advanced software technologies for E-Learning, Multimedia Content Authoring, Administration/Tracking, and Web-based Communication and Collaboration, has released RapidExam v2.5 Deluxe , the newest version of XStream's 100% programming-free exam/assessment authoring technology. RapidExam v2.5 Deluxe provides an advanced suite of highly anticipated development options and capabilities, including many powerful new features specifically requested by experienced users. Strengthened with this rich layer of new features, the RapidExam technology can create even more sophisticated exams, tests, quizzes, questionnaires, surveys, and other types of multimedia assessments.

The new features available in RapidExam v2.5 Deluxe include the following:

  • IMS QTI Compliance - Enables the reuse of exam files between different exam/assessment technologies that comply with the IMS Question & Test Interoperability (QTI) specifications. Exams/assessments created with RapidExam can be saved in IMS QTI format and then opened and used in other third-party exam/assessment technologies that are IMS QTI compliant. Similarly, an exam/assessment created in another IMS QTI-compliant exam/assessment technology can be imported into RapidExam and edited/enhanced using the features and capabilities provided within RapidExam.
  • Conditional Display of Ending Frames - The developer may specify the conditions under which each individual exam Ending frame is displayed (once the exam has been completed and submitted). Ending frames (and their associated content) may always be displayed, or they can be displayed differently based on whether the user passed the exam, failed the exam, or received a certain score within the exam.
  • Exam Certificates - Professionally designed exam certificates are included in RapidExam v2.5 Deluxe as template images. Developers may add these built-in certificate templates (as well as user-defined custom certificate templates) to Ending frames in order to present users with exam certificates if they pass the exam or meet another specified condition at runtime.
  • Print Functionality for Ending Frames - End users may be provided with the capability of printing specified Ending frames at runtime. This allows users to print out feedback information, exam certificates, and other content on Ending frames after submitting the exam.
  • Internal Variables - Internal Variables can be added to Text Fields and Instruction Boxes within an exam. Internal Variables provide access to various pieces of user and exam-related information, such as the user's login name, the system date and time, the exam name, the passing score, etc. This capability enables developers to personalize the exam and present useful information to the users as the exam is progressing.
  • Enhanced Fill-in-the-Blanks Questions - In addition to the existing text string-based Fill-in-the-Blanks question, developers may create Fill-in-the-Blanks questions that are integer-based (supporting non-decimal numeric values), decimal-based (supporting decimal-based numeric values), and range-based (supporting a specified range of integer or decimal-based numeric values).
  • Matrix-Based Questions - The developer may create matrix-based questions containing multiple rows of radio buttons and/or check boxes from which the user will select.
  • Additional XML Support - In RapidExam v2.5 Deluxe, additional features are supported for exporting to XML format.
  • Spell Checking - A Spell Checker tool is provided so that developers may check and correct the spelling within the exam/assessment files they have created.
  • Bookmarking Capability - RapidExam v2.5 Deluxe provides bookmarking capability. This enables the end user to save his/her current location within the exam before exiting. The developer may specify that the exam file will contain No Bookmarking, Automatic Bookmarking (meaning the system will automatically save bookmarking information periodically during the exam), Manual Bookmarking (meaning the user will be prompted to save the exam when exiting), or a combination of both (where the data is saved periodically and the user is also asked to save upon exiting).
  • Enhanced Flag Button - The Flag Button has been enhanced in RapidExam v2.5 Deluxe to include support for events. This means that various actions, such as navigating to the next question or another action such displaying a pop-up message, can be triggered when the user clicks the Flag Button during exam playback.
  • Conditional Display of Question Feedback - The developer may specify the conditions under which the feedback text for each individual question will be displayed in the Summary/Detailed report after the exam is submitted. For each question, the developer may specify that the feedback will always be displayed (irrespective of the question outcome) or will be displayed only if the user gets the question correct, incorrect and/or partially correct.
  • And more .

"The powerful results of RapidExam have long been clearly evident: quick and easy development of high-quality e-learning exams and assessments with unprecedented levels of interactivity and multimedia enhancements," says Sunil K.
