XStream Software Launches RapidSVG™ v2.0 Professional

New version of RapidSVG includes capabilities for converting shapes into motion paths, importing video, exporting to SVG Tiny v1.1 and v1.2, and much more.

OTTAWA, Canada, June 28, 2005 - XStream Software Inc., a leading provider of advanced software technologies for E-Learning, Multimedia Content Authoring, Streaming Media Authoring, Administration/Tracking, and Web-based Communication and Collaboration, has released RapidSVG v2.0 Professional , the latest version of XStream's 100% programming-free SVG authoring technology. RapidSVG v2.0 Professional provides a variety of powerful new features, which further enhance the technology's capabilities to produce sophisticated SVG web sites, graphics, animations, and other types of SVG content files.

New features available in RapidSVG v2.0 Professional include the following:

  • Convert Shapes Into Motion Paths - Any shape object (i.e., Line, Rectangle, Ellipse, Polyline, Polygon, or Pencil) may be easily converted into a motion path and saved in a library. These saved motion paths may be applied to other shapes/objects as custom motion animations.
  • Export Pages to SVG Tiny v1.1 or v1.2 - Developers may export individual SVG pages from a project to SVG Tiny v1.1 or v1.2 format. SVG Tiny, a subset of the SVG specification, is used for displaying SVG content on mobile wireless devices, such as mobile phones and PDAs.
  • Video Support - Linked video files may be added to an SVG file. The developer may also specify event triggers for video (i.e., a specific object or animation event will automatically start or stop video playback).
  • Custom Zooming/Panning Controls During Playback - Developers may add customized widget icons to an SVG project. A widget is a special runtime object containing buttons/controls that enable the end user to control zooming (i.e., increase or decrease the level of page magnification) and panning (i.e., move the page vertically and horizontally to select the desired view) during playback. Widgets are added and customized on a page-by-page basis. For each page in the project, the developer may add a unique widget.
  • Customized Preferences - Developers may customize some of RapidSVG's default preferences, including grid, antialias, and zoom settings. These default preferences will be applied to all new projects, pages, and objects.
  • Cut/Copy and Paste Text - Developers can cut/copy and paste multiple lines of text from one Text object to another.
  • Undo/Redo Changes to Properties Window - Changes made to the properties of an SVG page or object can be easily undone using the standard Undo/Redo command.
  • Add/Remove Nodes on an Animation Path - Developers may easily add selection/drag nodes to an animation path in order to further customize the length and shape of the path. Nodes may also be removed from an animation path.
  • Add/Edit Animation Values - Includes support for directly adding/editing animation values, including color/transformation/property values as well as key time and key spline values.
  • Online Transformations - Any selected object may be resized, moved, skewed, and/or rotated in a single transformation session in which the developer makes the desired transformations and then updates the object with the changes applied.

"RapidSVG v2.0 Professional greatly enhances the existing authoring power of our RapidSVG technology," says Sunil K. Sethi , XStream's President and CEO . "There are a wide variety of new editing options and capabilities for customizing SVG animations, as well as the long-awaited support for video integration."

"This latest release of RapidSVG enhances the available media support by enabling developers to incorporate both audio and video in their authored SVG content. This is a unique capability in an SVG editor," adds Mahendra K. Agrawal , XStream's Vice President of Technology . "Developers can easily integrate and synchronize audio and video files with SVG animations to produce web pages and presentations that duplicate the sophisticated results of Flash."
