Performance Analyzer™ v3.0 Features and Benefits (At a Glance ...)

Highlights of Performance Analyzer™ v3.0 include:

  • System Instructions Editor - Provides facilities for editing/removing captured mouse clicks and captured keystrokes during the editing stage.
  • Interactive Text Entry Fields - In Performance Analyzer, multiple text entry fields (known as Validation Fields) can be added to each frame/screen. Each Validation Field enables the user to enter values (words or phrases) at runtime on a frame. These can be validated against one or more correct values specified by the developer. These values can be exact values or values created using wildcard characters. For each value, the developer can specify the key that will initiate the validation process. Therefore, for different values, either the same validation key or different validation keys can be used.
  • Validation Field Wildcards - The Validation Field also supports a variety of wildcard characters, which may be used to substitute for one or more text characters within the validation string. This capability enables developers to create sophisticated validation strings and patterns with tremendous flexibility and power.
  • Hyperlinks and Buttons - In Performance Analyzer, developers are provided with a Hyperlink button object (i.e., an object that can look like a button or a different type of object depending on the options that are set). Multiple Hyperlinks may be added to each frame/screen. Developers may add Hyperlinks to serve as links between assessment screens in order to facilitate navigation . The presence of multiple Hyperlink buttons on a screen enables the user to not only navigate between screens but also perform other functions within an assessment. Hyperlinks can be used to display graphical images, play video or audio files, display text messages in a pop-up box, exit the Performance Analyzer file, link to any type of external file or application, launch a web page, and more.
  • Runtime Feedback - Performance Analyzer enables developers to create various types of feedback for end users:
    • Attempt Feedback for Step Frames - For each Step frame, the developer may configure one or more attempt messages that will be displayed for each of the end user's incorrect attempts to perform the right action on the Step frame. For each attempt, the developer may also configure a hint message that will provide the end user with some information that may help him/her in the next attempt.
    • Validation Messages for Step Frames - For each Step frame, the developer may customize both a validation message (i.e., the message that is displayed if the end user performs the required action correctly) and a validation error message (i.e., the error message that is displayed if the end user performs the required action incorrectly).
    • General Feedback - On any frame, the developer may add Hyperlink buttons that display pop-up messages/images or play sound/video.
    • Report Feedback Text - For each task file, as well as each individual Step frame within the task file, the developer may customize feedback text that will be displayed next to the corresponding task or step listed in the runtime report at the end of the assessment.
  • Text Features - Performance Analyzer includes a wide variety of text features, including the following:
    • Text Field displays text directly on frames.
    • Instruction Box displays text in a floating window.
    • Inline graphics may be added to Text Fields and Instruction Boxes.
    • Record Fields - Text Fields and Instruction Boxes can be defined as "record" fields. This enables the design and properties of the Text Field or Instruction Box to be shared across multiple frames, and each frame can contain different content. This makes it easy for developers to quickly add Instruction Boxes and Text Fields across multiple screens without having to copy and paste the Instruction Box/Text Field and its associated properties from screen to screen.
    • Rotated Text Field enables text to be rotated to any angle from 1 to 360 degrees.
    • Format Bar includes industry-standard options for modifying text font, style, size, color, etc.
    • Text may be converted to hotwords, which are interactive links to pop-up text messages or external RapidBuilder/RapidExam files.
    • Text Fields may be styled as call-outs for purposes of labeling and identifying specific items or areas. There are various types of call-out styles available for a Text Field, including Rectangle, Cloud, Round Bubble, etc.
    • Text Fields and Instruction Boxes may be exported to Flash as images (instead of regular objects). This exporting option will produce sharper, smoother text (displayed with picture-like quality) within the exported Flash file.
  • Import/Export Text - Enables developers to export the text from selected frames/objects in the current Performance Analyzer file to an XML file for the purpose of language translation. The translated text may later be imported from the XML file back into the Performance Analyzer file in order to replace the original text.
