RapidBuilder® v3.1 Deluxe
Features and Benefits (At a Glance ...)
| Highlights of RapidBuilder Deluxe v3.1 include: |
Page 2 of 6 |
- Thumbnail Frame View - Displays thumbnail images of all or selected
frames in the current RapidBuilder file. This enables developers to view
multiple frames at a glance and provides an alternate means of frame
navigation and frame editing (e.g., cutting/copying, pasting, deleting,
etc.).
- Multiple File Formats - In addition to native .RBX/.RPR file format,
RapidBuilder files may be converted to a variety of popular media formats,
including Flash (SWF), Microsoft Word (DOC), EXE, and various video
formats (MPEG, MOV, ASF, and AVI).
- Export to Flash (SWF) Functionality - RapidBuilder’s 80-97% compression
technology generates relatively small Flash files, which can be played in browsers
without requiring a separate/proprietary plug-in.
- Export to Microsoft Word (DOC) Format - RapidBuilder supports
exporting to Microsoft Word (.DOC) format. All or selected frames/screens
and text from a RapidBuilder file may be exported to an MS Word document
file as frame images and text. Developers may easily customize an
exported document file by selecting the frames and text items to
be exported and then defining the look of the document (by configuring
page layout settings, spacing between frame images and text, a document
title, captions for exported frame images and text sections, and
more). Exported document files generated from RapidBuilder files
are fully modifiable .DOC files that may be edited and customized
through Microsoft Word just like any other document.
RapidBuilder’s
Export to Word capability is ideal for quickly generating printed
user documentation and handouts (including presentations, training
material, step-by-step procedures, etc.) from captured/authored simulation
files.
- Video Files - Simulations may be saved as MPEG,
MOV, ASF, and AVI video files, which may be played just like
any other regular video file.
- EXE Files - Simulations may be saved as self-executing
.EXE applications that do not require a separate
runtime player in order to be played.
- Printing RapidBuilder Files - RapidBuilder includes
Printing Capability. Developers may print all or
selected screens/frames from a RapidBuilder file
directly to paper in order to create a printed document
version of the file. This printing capability is
useful for providing developers/authors with document
printouts of RapidBuilder files for purposes of quick
review, reference, quality assurance, etc.
- SCORM v1.1 and v1.2 Compliance - RapidBuilder v3.1 Deluxe
features comprehensive, user-friendly support for the
Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) e-learning
standards. RapidBuilder v3.1 Deluxe enables the developer
to create SCORM courses and then save them in both v1.1
and v1.2 formats. A SCORM course (RBX-based or Flash-based)
may consist of one or more Sharable Content Objects (SCOs),
which are self-contained, browser-launchable modules
representing individual lessons or learning units in
the course. A saved SCORM v1.1 course may be deployed,
managed, and tracked through any Learning Management
System (LMS) that supports SCORM v1.1. A saved SCORM
v1.2 course may be deployed, managed, and tracked through
any LMS that supports SCORM v1.2 (including XStream’s
own back-end RapidManager LMS). In RapidBuilder
v3.1 Deluxe, the process of creating a SCORM
course is completely automated and extremely user
friendly, with all of the required files and manifest/metadata
information generated automatically (although the
developer also has the option of specifying custom
manifest and metadata information for the course
and SCOs if desired). The back-end RapidManager
component includes a built-in, browser-based SCORM
Launcher application for playing registered SCORM
v1.2 courses, and it enables administrators to
generate a variety of statistical data reports
on registered SCORM v1.2 courses.
RapidBuilder
v3.1 Deluxe provides a variety of options for saving/converting
SCORM courses and SCOs:
- Any RBX-based SCORM course may be saved as
a Flash-based SCORM course.
- Any .RPR project may be saved as an RBX-based
or Flash-based SCORM course.
- Any .RBX file may be saved as an RBX-based
or Flash-based SCO, and any RBX-based SCO may
be saved as a regular .RBX file.
- Third-party SCO Support - In addition to creating SCOs
within RapidBuilder v3.1 Deluxe, developers may import
external third-party SCOs created with RapidExam v2.5
Deluxe, Performance Analyzer v1.0, RapidSVG v1.0 Deluxe,
or any third-party SCORM course-authoring tool. This
flexibility enables the developer to incorporate many
different types of SCOs within a SCORM course.
- 508 Compliance - Includes full support for the accessibility
requirements specified in Section 508 of the U.S Rehabilitation
Act. RapidBuilder v3.1 Deluxe is a 508-compliant technology
that may be fully accessed by users with physical disabilities
or limited mobility. The technology supports the use
of keyboard equivalents for all mouse actions. The various
RapidBuilder objects, dialog boxes, buttons, pop-up menus,
and other features may be accessed and manipulated using
designated keyboard keys or key combinations (instead
of using the “point
and click” functionality of the mouse device).
These keyboard equivalents provide an alternative for
visually impaired users or physically disabled users
who may not be able to utilize the mouse device. In addition,
the technology supports the Windows Accessibility Options,
which are special Windows accessibility settings that
may be customized for keyboard, sound, display, and mouse.
- Advanced Video Support - RapidBuilder includes the
following types of video support:
- ASF, AVI, MOV, MPG, and MPEG video files supported.
- Video Stage and Flash Stage objects enable video files
and Flash files to be linked or embedded directly on
frames within RapidBuilder files. The developer may define
an in and out point (which enables playing part of the
video or Flash file instead of the entire file). The
developer can also control whether video/Flash playback
is initiated automatically when the frame is displayed
on the screen or is initiated manually by the end user
clicking a Play button. In either case, an action/event
can be set to trigger once the video/Flash file finishes
playing.
- External video files may be played with Hyperlink buttons.
- Movie files may be imported to RapidBuilder files.
