Text Features - RapidExam includes a wide variety of text features, including the following:
Text Field displays text directly on frames.
Instruction Box displays text in a floating window.
Text may be converted to hotwords, which are interactive links to pop-up text messages or external RapidBuilder (.RBX) files.
Internal variables (i.e., predefined system variables representing certain dynamic information contained within the exam environment) can be inserted within Text Fields and Instruction Boxes in order to dynamically display system information to the end user during playback. This information can include the user's login name, the system date and time, the exam name, the passing score, the score achieved by the user in the exam, the total allowed time, the total number of questions, and more. The capability of adding internal variables enables the developer to personalize the exam and present useful information to the end user as the exam is progressing. It can also help the developer to customize the information that is displayed on any certificate or information-based screens shown at the end of the exam.
Text may be displayed with dissolving and exploding effects during playback.
Spell Checker - Enables the developer to detect and correct spelling errors in object-related text.
Draw Objects/Tools - RapidExam provides many different types of draw objects and draw tools that can be used to create various types of lines and shapes. These can be used for many things such as pointing users to certain parts of the screen, creating tables, emphasizing certain aspects of the screen, and more. The draw objects/tools are as follows:
Line objects can be used to connect text fields, point to frame features, create tables and diagrams, and more. A line can be styled as an arrow, and its size, color and width can be adjusted. It can also be displayed in different styles, including Solid, Dash and Dot.
Round Rectangle, Rectangle, and Ellipse objects can be used to create tables or visually enhance a frame. The size, color, border style, and border width of these objects can be adjusted. They can also be set to Opaque or Transparent, and they can be filled with a solid color, diagonal lines, vertical lines, horizontal lines, and more.
The Fill Color tool allows the developer to select any color from the Color Palette and use it to color draw objects or frames.
The Color Selector allows the developer to select any color from a shape object and save it as a color in the Color Palette . This color can then be applied to any frame.
The Pencil tool allows the developer to draw free-form lines on a frame. The color of the lines can be adjusted.
The Air Brush tool allows the developer to draw free-form lines with an airbrush effect. The color of the spray can be adjusted, and different coverage levels can be selected.
The Paint Brush tool allows the developer to draw free-form lines with different levels of thickness and different styles. The color of the strokes can be adjusted. Different brush shapes (rounded, squared, ribbon up, ribbon down) as well as different levels of stroke thickness can be selected.
The Polyline tool allows the developer to draw straight lines with angles. The color and thickness of the line can be adjusted.
The Polygon tool allows the developer to draw a polygon (any shape with 3 or more straight line segments). The fill color and line thickness can be adjusted.
Color Palette - RapidExam provides a color palette with over 200 different colors, which can be used to set the fill color of draw objects or the background color of frames. The developer has access to a broad range of colors to help create visually appealing exams. Developers may also create and save custom color palettes.
Editing Grid - A dotted grid may be displayed over the frame viewing area to serve as a visual aid for increasing the developer's accuracy when placing and moving objects around on the frame.
Password Protection - RapidExam enables developers to assign passwords to files in order to prevent unauthorized editing. Once a password has been assigned to a file, the file can only be subsequently opened in RapidExam once the correct password has been entered.
Multiple Deployment Options - RapidExam files are deployed via CD-ROM, LAN/WAN, or Web (Internet, Intranet, or Extranet). Local deployment is accomplished with XStream's RapidPlayer Runtime player, and Web deployment is accomplished with RapidPlayer ActiveX (for Internet Explorer) or RapidPlayer Plug-in (for Netscape).
Automatic Web Streaming - Automatic streaming capabilities enable RapidExam files to play smoothly even across slow Internet connections.
Offline Exams - Using XStream RapidShare LMS (XStream's web-based Learning Management System), registered RapidExam exams may be generated as offline exams. Assigned users can take offline exams without being connected to the LAN or the Internet. Upon completing the offline exam, the end user will transfer the results to a system administrator, who will then upload the results to the back-end database for tracking and reporting purposes.
Back-End Administration and Tracking - RapidExam exam files (in EXM and XML formats) and SCORM v1.2 courses may be administered and tracked using XStream RapidShare™ Learning Management System (LMS), which is XStream's secure, wide-ranging and completely web-based LMS module within the XStream RapidShare hosted web environment and digital workspace. XStream RapidShare LMS works with XStream's RapidBuilder, RapidExam, Performance Analyzer, and RapidGuide technologies. The LMS includes full capabilities for registering, tracking, and reporting on learning content files created with RapidBuilder, RapidExam, Performance Analyzer, and RapidGuide. The LMS module can also schedule, track, and report on Offline Events of all types (such as instructor-led training sessions, meetings, workshops, seminars, conferences, trade shows, etc.), and it provides many other features and capabilities, including e-mail notifications, extensive reporting capabilities, self-registration capabilities, learning paths, course catalogs, prerequisite definitions, bookmarking capabilities, offline exam generation, interface customization, archiving capabilities, 508 compliance, multi-language support, optional communication and collaboration capabilities, and more.
